The Different Kinds Of Neuroma

Neuroma is a growing or development of tumor on the nerve tissue. Although neuroma to the foot is the most common, there are other neuromas not found on the foot like stump neuroma and acoustic neuroma located in the ear.

Acoustic Neuroma

Foot neuroma is described by the growing mass around the foot’s plantar nerve. It is the result of constant irritation or compression to that nerve. Intermetatarsal neuroma is the most common kind of neuroma to the foot. It is also known as Morton’s neuroma, Morton’s disease, or Morton’s foot. Morton’s neuroma can be sometimes confused with simple metatarsalgia because of their symptom’s similarity and location in the foot.

Intermetatarsal neuroma is the Morton’s neuroma medical name. The term intermetatarsal is due to the fact that the neuroma is located in between the fourth and the third metatarsals. The feeling of having this disease is like having a stone placed under the shoes while standing or walking.

This disease is very common to those women who wear high heels repeatedly. It is also made worse by frequently performing high impact and pressure activities like jogging, tennis, aerobics and running. Those who are obese and overweight are more prone to Morton’s neuroma because of the added weight to their foot and also to those people who have gout, arthritis and foot problem history.
